If you are installing conveyor belt in your factory, or any other manufacturing facilities, then it is very important that you train the conveyor belt according to your need. Generally, what training a conveyor belt means is, fixing the pulley and the idlers. Predominantly it also includes setting the loading condition of the belt, so that the belt don’t get out of the track. Industrial conveyor belts generally have a lot of parts in them, and hence, it can be a very challenging and complex task for a person. In this article, we will talk about some of the tips on how to train conveyor belts, so that, if you ever find yourself in a situation, these general tips can help you a bit.

Before Running at Full Capacity

It is very important that, before the conveyor belt run at a full capacity in the factory, it should be tested that, if it is straight. If the conveyor belt is not configured to be straight, it might hamper the normal working of the belt.

Working Direction

If you have spotted the belt is coming right off the track, then you need to adjust the belt. Now, the best practices of adjusting the belt starts from the head pulley. Starting at the head pulley, gives you an added advantage of working your way back to the problematic part. When you spot the part where the belt has come off the track, start fixing it from six idlers back, so that once you fix that spot, the other spots don’t come off.

Pulley Shaft Positions

Both the end of the belt will have pulleys attached to them. You need to make sure that the head and the tail pulley stays parallel to each other. The snub pulleys are another type of pulleys that are present in the two ends of the belt, and they should be adjusted properly for the proper functioning of the belt.

Running Off Track

If you see that a specific part of the conveyor belt is running off the track, then you should know that there is a problem with the idler or a pulley. Since, a conveyor belt consists of a lot of movable parts, you need to check the conveyor structure to find our problems.

Idler Position and Conveyor Movement

Ideally the idler should always be in perpendicular to the frame of the belt. If not, the conveyor belt may run in to serious problems. Since, the movement of conveyor belts are constricted to the piece that it touches first in its journey, and idler is the piece that the belt touches first, which means, if the idler is not perpendicular to the frame, or if it is out of alignment, then it can potentially wreak havoc to the system.

Test Run

Test running the conveyor belt is also a very important part of conveyor belt training. You would see, once the conveyor belt is well trained, it will touch all the points on the horizontal roll, it will touch the idlers and the pulleys. Once, everything is well done, let the belt run with full load. Running the belt with full load, will help to break the belt faster.
