If you are installing a conveyor belt in your factory, or any other manufacturing facilities, then you must train the conveyor belt according to your need. Generally, what training a conveyor belt means is, fixing the pulley and the idlers. Predominantly, it also includes setting the belt’s loading condition so that the belt doesn’t get out of the track. Industrial conveyor belts generally have many parts in them, and hence, it can be a very challenging and complex task for a person. In this article, we will talk about some of the tips on how to train conveyor belts, so that, if you ever find yourself in a situation, these general tips can help you a bit.

Before Running at Full Capacity

Before the conveyor belt runs at full capacity in the factory, it must be tested if it is straight. If the conveyor belt is not configured to be straight, it might hamper the belt’s normal working.

Working Direction

If you have spotted the belt coming right off the track, you need to adjust the belt. Now, the best practices of adjusting the belt starting from the head pulley. Starting at the head pulley gives you an added advantage of working your way back to the problematic part. When you spot the part where the belt has come off the track, start fixing it from six idlers back so that once you fix that spot, the other spots don’t come off.

Pulley Shaft Positions

Both the end of the belt will have pulleys attached to them. You need to make sure that the head and the tail pulley stays parallel to each other. The snub pulleys are another type of pulley present in the two ends of the belt, and they should be adjusted properly for the belt’s proper functioning.

Running Off Track

If you see that a specific part of the conveyor belt is running off the track, you should know that there is a problem with the idler or a pulley. Since a conveyor belt consists of many movable parts, you need to check the conveyor structure to find our problems.

Idler Position and Conveyor Movement

Ideally, the idler should always be perpendicular to the frame of the belt. If not, the conveyor belt may run into serious problems. Since the movement of conveyor belts are constricted to the piece that it touches first in its journey, and the idler is the piece that the belt touches first, which means, if the idler is not perpendicular to the frame or if it is out of alignment, then it can potentially wreak havoc to the system.

Test Run

Test running the conveyor belt is also a vital part of conveyor belt training. Once the conveyor belt is well trained, it will touch all the points on the horizontal roll, touch the idlers and the pulleys. Once everything is well done, let the belt run with a full load. Running the belt with a full load will help to break the belt faster. If you own a company or a warehouse and need a conveyor belt, Rainbow Precision Products might help you.
