Bringing home a new pet is always fascinating. You are excited about the possibilities, and you generally can’t wait to introduce the new addition to your family and friends. Before buying a kitten, check out the different breeds and their traits, and then go for the one that suits you the best. One of the most important things to consider before adopting or buying a kitten is that, on average, the life expectancy of a cat is 15-20 years, and hence, make sure that you have the means to take the cat’s responsibility for those years. Now, there are two ways that you can actually bring home a new kitten. You either have to adopt it from an adoption center or buy it from a pet center. It’s always better to get a kitten from an adoption center since, by adopting it, you are saving a life.

Now, when you have made up your mind about buying a new pet, the first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you have all the necessary things that a kitten might need to lead its day to day life. You would need primarily two bowls, one for food and another for water, a small bed or a box would also do, where the cat would feel safe, a litter box, where the cat can take a dump, and also toys. When you bring the kitten home, it is evident that it would be frightened.

As days go, you would see that the kitten would get familiarized with the situation and manage it in the new environment. For the first few days, keep a box in the room in which it stays so that it can hide in that box if it ever feels unsafe. If you are bringing home a kitten, buy plenty of toys since cats are very playful. You must have scratching posts or cat trees as they are termed. Kittens have a tendency to scratch things when they are small, and hence, if you do not have a scratching post, it might scratch your furniture and damage them.

But, if you can’t handle the brushing and the bathing routines, you need to hire a stylist. Often the veterinary visits are annual if the kitten is healthy. If it is not, or if you have an older cat, you need to visit the veterinary more frequently, and it would be costlier too. Hence, before adopting or buying a cat, make sure that you have the means to maintain them.
