Yoga is a great way to get some extra fitness into your life, but it offers so much more than just a workout. For those of you that think yoga isn’t much of a workout, talk to some people that do it on a regular basis, and take a look at their toned lean muscles. Yoga doesn’t always offer an easy workout, but you also can take the poses at your own speed and take breaks when you need, while still getting all the benefits it offers.
Promoting Relaxation
Yoga is a great way to add a little relaxation in your life. If you haven’t done yoga before you may not understand how a workout can be relaxing. The thing is, yoga combines relaxing breathing techniques (think meditation) with your workout (which consists of different poses that stretch your mind and body).
Just like a good aerobic workout releases endorphins in your brain that make you feel good, a regular yoga workout will help you feel more relaxed, confident, and balanced. It promotes well-being, both inside and out.
Building Muscle
Yoga helps you build lean muscle, making you stronger from head to toe. It also helps promote balance and good posture. Some of the moves may appear difficult in the beginning, but your muscles remember them and you can fall deeper into the poses the more you do yoga.
Yoga also builds your core muscles. Your core is part of what keeps you balanced, and a tight and healthy middle also reduces your risk of heart disease.

Increasing Flexibility
Not only are you building muscle with your daily yoga routine, but you can also increase your flexibility. You may find that when you first start doing yoga you have difficulty doing some of the postures. Maybe you just can’t get as deep into the movement as the trainer, or maybe you feel your muscles tighten up too quickly. The more you do it the more you’ll be able to get into the postures more correctly and with ease.
Bonding Exercise
Yoga can also be a great way to bond with your significant other. Even if one of you isn’t really a very active person yoga can be a great way to introduce them to the active part of your life. It lets them ease into things, unlike a trek on the treadmill.
Not only will you get to spend more time together, but you’ll be promoting each other’s health and well-being. You can do yoga together at your own home, do it at a local yoga center, or even do yoga on the beach together enjoying the sand in your toes. Bonding over something healthy like this will definitely strengthen your relationship.
